Training Events

The Intermediate Survival Course is designed to build upon the skill you learned during the Basic Survival Course and teach you additional skills that allow you to be less reliant on gear and more reliant on yourself and what nature provides. The is the “walk” phase of our complete “crawl, walk, run” system of training.

During the Intermediate Survival Course, emphasis shifts from being fully prepared and equipped, to learning to do more with less. You will learn to survive with only a few items and rely more on primitive skills and what nature provides. Learning these intermediate skills allows you to be more prepared for an emergency with more reliance on yourself and nature and provides you with the necessary primitive skills as a back-up for when gear gets lost, broken, or forgotten.

During the Intermediate Survival Course we will teach you the skills you need to survive an emergency situation. You are going to learn everything you need to do until you can either self-rescue or be rescued.

Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking and prioritizing tasks to meet your needs. You will learn techniques for starting and maintaining fires, build effective shelters to protect you from exposure to the elements. In addition, we will teach you how to filter and disinfect water to make it safe to drink, continue to build a library of easy to identify wild edibles, and some more useful trapping and fishing techniques.

More importantly, you will be taught techniques that could prevent a survival situation from happening in the first place. You will learn medicinal plants to use for wilderness injuries, intermediate map reading and land navigation navigation skills.

This course, along with successful completion of the Basic Course, continues the foundation for the ultimate test of your skills and self-reliance: the Advanced Survival Course. You must complete this course prior to attending the Advanced Course. This is a patch-earning course. Upon successful completion, you will earn the coveted Flint & Steel Critical Skills Group patch with the “Intermediate” rocker. These cannot be purchased and are only available to students that earn them through training.

Wake up in a well-stocked homestead in middle of the SHTF. Your team will be met with numerous (surprise) homesteader/primitive living challenges to test your experience and knowledge.  

In this course, you will learn the psychology of captivity and survival, becoming a hard target, situational awareness, blending into the baseline, self-defense from a weakened state, intelligence gathering, protecting your assets, escape from restraints and facilities, evasion from recapture, acting and compliance with the authorities, and repatriation.

The Advanced Survival Course is designed to take the skills and experience you have gained from both the Basic and Intermediate Survival Courses, and apply them to a fully self-reliant survival situation where all you will have available are the clothes on your back, a knife, and what nature provides. This is the “run” phase of our complete “crawl, walk, run” system of training.

Our system recognizes the need for gear-reliance for people who have not yet fully developed the necessary skills and don’t yet have the experience to provide for their basic needs from nature. As skills and experience develop, the person can make an individual choice as to what gear they do and don’t need, and what they can use from nature to replace it. Gear-reliance is the safety net that is used while learning to become more self-reliant.

During the Advanced Survival Course, heavy emphasis will be placed on learning and applying primitive skills. You will learn to survive with only the clothes on your back and a knife. Learning these advanced skills allows you to rely on yourself and nature in an emergency.

This course, along with successful completion of the Basic and Intermediate Courses, continues the foundation for self- and nature-reliance. This is a patch-earning course.
